Description:
Zephyr is a unique Dwarven bow with a special effect which gives it a much faster draw-speed than a regular Dwarven bow. Otherwise, it looks the same and does the same damage, and can be improved through smithing as normal. Zephyr belonged to a Nord adventurer named Katria, who is met when the player embarks on the quest "Lost to the Ages," searching for an ancient Dwarven/Dwemer (LINK) machine called the Aetherium Forge. There are several famous archers in Old Norse literature (for instance, Án bow-bender from Áns saga bogsveigis (LINK), Arrow-Odd from Örvar-Odds saga (LINK), and one of the famous sons of Ragnar hairy-breeches, Ívar inn beinlausi (Ivar the boneless). Typically, their skill with the weapon and their innate talents, superhuman nature, or magic are their real power and the bow is either normal or simply larger and more sturdily built. However, Arrow-Odd inherits three magical arrows, called Gusisnautar "Gusir's gifts," which his grandfather, Ketil Trout (LINK) took from Gusir, King of the Sámi. The arrows are pinpoint accurate and return automatically to the shooter. Because they were made by dwarfs, they could pierce anything they were shot at, just as other weapons made by dwarfs in sagas can cut iron like butter. Thus, it is at least interesting that Zephyr is a Dwarven bow specifically, as the Dwemer of The Elder Scrolls universe inherited the peerless and magical craftsmanship of their medieval Norse predecessors, the Dvergar (LINK).No links to Medieval Citations yet.
